Chemical: Alkalinity: Boiler Water, Steam Boilers
Alkalinity may be required to increase the Boiler Water pH.
In general, the Boiler Water pH should be greater then 10.5 to ensure the polymer chemical can work effectively to remove boiler water scaling type impurities. Scaling out boiler impurities will decrease your boiler heat transfer efficiency which will increase your energy costs. Also, if scale is excessive, early tube replacement may be required.
In high boiler pressure systems, if the total alkalinity exceeds a 3:1 ratio, silica plating may occur.
Low boiler water pH may lead to excessive corrosion rates and premature boiler tube failure.
Also, be careful when handling alkaline products, they are one of the worst types of chemical burns to the skin.
